Ending Homelessness Together

Homelessness Is Solvable

Fall is the spooky season. It’s also the “silly season” when politicians say anything to get elected and prey on our fears to mobilize us. Don’t believe in ghosts – believe in the power of housing people!

One of the silly season myths is that “homelessness is always with us.” Or “housing people doesn’t solve the problem.” The facts show otherwise. Housing people ends their homelessness. And people are more likely to benefit from mental health treatment and alcohol and drug treatment if they are housed.

But facts don’t matter in the “silly season.” Perhaps stories are a better way to communicate the message. For these, Community Solutions has given us: Homelessness Is Solvable. Here you can see how it’s done.

When the streets are teeming with people in need, the task seems insurmountable. However, in most places, it’s not thousands, it’s hundreds that will benefit from patient outreach that guides people into the local Coordinated Entry System. There people are given the support they need to get off the street. It works if you work it.
